A Hawaiian Paradise Park couple was arrested for a range of firearms violations after they nearly crashed into a police vehicle.
Justin Paishon, 33, and Raina Kaupu, 37, were apprehended Oct. 9 after they nearly drove into a patrolling police cruiser, according to police. When the officers stopped the vehicle, Paishon and Kaupu allegedly attempted to flee on foot, but were quickly captured.
A search warrant on the vehicle discovered a rifle, a shotgun and ammunition.
Paishon was charged with improper storage of firearms and ammunition and prohibited ownership of a firearm. Kaupu was charged with reckless driving and improper storage of firearms and ammunition.
While Kaupu has no criminal record except minor traffic infractions, Paishon was convicted of third-degree assault and terroristic threatening in 2016, for which he served 30 days in jail.
Paishon’s bail was set at $7,500, while Kaupu’s was set at $3,000.
